World of Honey - Honey Tasting Series

Honey isn't just honey anymore. Join us for our quarterly tasting series at the Robert Mondavi Institute.
Delve into varietal honeys from around the state, the continent and the world! Participants will receive beginning sensory tasting guidelines and delve into a unique honey tasting experience. Each tasting will feature a selection of 4 – 6 honeys and is complemented with a short lecture about bees, related beekeeping practices and issues.

- California honey tasting (Thursday, October 20, 2016)

- CANCELLED: Northern California honey tasting (Wednesday, February 1, 2017)

- International honey tasting (Tuesday, April 18, 2017)

Thursday, October 20, 2016: World of Honey - California

Time: 6:30PM - 8:00PM

In this unique honey tasting, we will explore the diversity of California's offerings from the North of the State to the South. With almond harvest happening, we will feature hard-to-find Almond Honey and the fruits of the bees work from almonds.
Elina Ni
ño, the California State apiculturist, will deliver a talk on the state of the bees in California and the country with a focus on the almond pollination season

Wednesday, February 1, 2017: World of Honey - Northern America


Time: 6:30PM - 8:00PM

Featured honeys are Avocado honey from Mexico, Meadowfoam honey from Oregon, American Bamboo from New York, and Orange Blossom from California and Florida. Neal Williams, the Associate Professor from the Dept. of Entomology and Nematology at UC Daviswill be discussing about native pollinators from all over the U.S.

Events at the Center

The Honey and Pollination Center hosts several annual events including mead making short-courses, symposiums, public outreach events and fundraising dinners. Many of these are unique to the center, and to UC Davis. Mead-making short courses in a university environment have never been offered to hobbyists, professional mead makers, and the general public. The Bee Symposium, an annual event, brings together faculty from the esteemed UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology with bee researchers, experts and hobbyists from the United States and Canada.
